How it works
Your own app, without a developer's bill.
You don't pay to have it built. You pay one monthly plan, and that covers building it, putting it live (as a web app, on the App Store and Google Play, or both) and looking after it for as long as you have it.
No upfront cost. 12-month minimum, then month to month.
Book a Free CallFour steps, and what you do at each one
-
A free call
You tell me how customers order or book with you now. I tell you honestly whether an app would help, and which plan would suit you.
You: Just the call.
-
I design and build it
Your name, your logo, your colours, built around how your business runs. You try it on your own phone before any customer sees it.
You: Try it and tell me what to change.
-
It goes live
As a web app at your own address, ready to share as a link or a QR code, or on the App Store and Google Play from your business's own accounts, so it's listed in your name. I do the forms, the screenshots and the reviews.
You: For the app stores, sign up to Apple and Google. I walk you through it.
-
I look after it
Updates, fixes and changes are part of the plan, for as long as you have it. You get on with running the business.
You: Tell your regulars the app is there.
What's included, and the terms in plain words
The plan covers
- Designing and building your app, with your name, logo and colours
- Putting it live: as a web app at your own address, on the App Store and Google Play, or both
- Apple's and Google's developer fees, for the app stores: I pay them
- The server and hosting behind it
- Notifications and messages to your customers
- Online payments through Stripe, if you take orders, bookings or deposits
- Updates for new iPhones and Android phones
- Fixes, support and changes when you need them
The terms
- No upfront cost. For the app stores, Apple and Google charge a developer fee when your business signs up; you pay it with your own card, and I take the same amount off your first monthly payment.
- A 12-month minimum, then month to month with 30 days' notice.
- The app is yours by name: a web app at your own address, and app store apps listed from your own Apple and Google accounts.
- The code and the server stay mine, licensed to you while you're on the plan.
- If you leave after the minimum, the app comes down and you get your customers' data. Or you can buy the code outright.
- Everything is in writing before you agree to anything.
Two plans, and I'll tell you which costs you less
One is a flat monthly fee. The other is a lower monthly fee plus a small share of the payments taken through the app, which suits businesses taking orders, bookings or deposits. Which is better for you depends on your numbers, so we work it out together on the call, and the prices are in your proposal before you decide.
Questions businesses usually ask
Do I need to be technical?
No. You tell me how your business runs and what you want customers to be able to do. I handle the technical side, and the day-to-day things, like changing the menu or sending an offer, are done from your phone.
Should it be an App Store app or a web app?
A web app opens from a link or a QR code, with nothing to download, works on any phone or computer and is the quickest to get going. An app on the App Store and Google Play sits on your customers' home screens and is the surest way to send them notifications. Some businesses have both. I'll tell you on the call which suits yours.
Is it really my app, with my name on it?
Yes. A web app sits at your own web address. On the App Store and Google Play it's published from your business's own Apple and Google accounts, so it's listed under your name. Either way, the code and the server behind it stay mine, licensed to you while you're on the plan.
How much does it cost?
Nothing upfront. Then one monthly plan, with a 12-month minimum. There are two plans: a flat monthly fee, or a lower monthly fee plus a small share of the payments taken through the app, which suits businesses taking orders, bookings or deposits. Which one costs you less depends on your numbers, so I work it out with you on the call and put it in writing before you agree to anything.
Do I need a website?
Not for a web app. For the App Store, Apple asks a company for a working website before it will list its app, and an Instagram or Facebook page doesn't count. If you haven't got one, tell me on the call and we'll sort it out.
What is a D-U-N-S number, and do I need one?
Only for the App Store and Google Play. It's a free business number that Apple and Google use to check a company is real. A limited company needs one, and it usually takes about a week. I'll show you how to get it.
A sole trader doesn't need one, but Apple and Google show your own name as the seller.
How long does it take?
I'll give you a date on our call. A web app is the quickest. For the App Store and Google Play, most of the wait is usually Apple and Google checking your business's accounts, which can take a few weeks; the building happens alongside it.
How will my customers find it?
Mostly through you: a sign on the counter, a line on your receipts, a post on your socials and a word at the till. A web app is a link you can put anywhere, and an app store app can be found by searching your name in the App Store and Google Play.
An app works best with customers who already know you. It helps you keep them and see them more often; it is not a way to be found by strangers.
Can customers pay in the app?
Yes, for food and drink, bookings, deposits and things you sell in person. Payments go through Stripe into your own Stripe account, and Stripe takes its own small fee on each one.
Can I change things myself?
Your menu or price list, opening hours and offers, yes, from your phone. For anything bigger, like a new feature, tell me and I'll do it.
What if something breaks?
Tell me and I'll fix it. Fixes, updates for new phones and changes are all part of the plan, with no extra bill.
Does it work on iPhone and Android?
Yes, both, on the same plan. A web app works on computers too.
What happens after 12 months?
It carries on month to month. You can stop with 30 days' notice.
What happens if I leave?
The app comes down, because it stops working without the server behind it. You get a copy of your customers' data. Or you can buy the code outright and keep the app; the price for that is in your proposal.
What about my customers' data?
It's your customers' data. I look after it for you under a written data processing agreement, each app has its own privacy policy, and if you leave you get a copy.
Got a question that isn't here?
Ask me on a free call. Tell me a bit about your business and we'll find a time. No cost, no obligation, and you'll hear back from me within a few days. If an app isn't right for your business, I'll tell you straight.
